Peter Woodbury was born June 19, 1640[1] and baptized in Salem, Massachusetts on 19. 7m. 1640 (19 Sept 1640).[2] Although, the family may have lived in Beverly earlier, Beverly was not incorporated until 1668.
Marriages

He married first Abigail Batchelder in Salem September 14, 1665.[1] Abigail (born February 12, 1642/3; d. before 1667 in Salem, Essex, Ma.) was the daughter of John Batchelder.[3] Their son Peter was born the next year, but Abigail died either in childbirth or soon after.[4][5]
In July 1667, Peter remarried to Sarah Dodge in Salem. She was the daughter of Richard Dodge.[3]
Death

JULY 5, 1704, aboutÆ 64 years in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts.[6]
Burial
1st Parish Cemetery, Beverly, Essex, MA. Tracing of his headstone: "Here lies ye body of Peter Woodbury aged sixty-four years, died July ye 5th 1704"[1][7]He died in 1704 at the age of 64.

Peter Woodbury of Bass River (a river in Salem/Beverly) is on the Apr 29, 1668 list of Freeman[8]
On Oct 23, 1667, Peter and Sarah were admitted to full communion in the First Church of Beverly[9] "20. 8. 86, Peter Woodbury Snr was by ye brethren of this Church chosen to ye office of a Deacon in this Church." (Oct 20, 1886)[9]
Peter held many of the offices and performed duties typical for the times. He was selectman 1675, 1676, 1682-4. He served on Juries. He walked and marked the boundaries between Lynn and Salem. He testified in court, and administered estates. He is referred to as "Sargeant" in several documents, so no doubt held that rank in the trainband. In 1689 he was called Lieutenant. He was part of the troop of horse in Beverly. He served as deputy during the era between royal charters, and afterward under the new charter of William and Mary. He was assessor and served on committees. He had excellent handwriting.[1]
During the witchcraft delusion in Salem, it is related of him that he kept his horses saddled to assist the persecuted to flee to New Hampshire out of the jurisdiction of the court. [1]
In March 13, 1681/2, he purchased from his brother-in-law John Hill and wife Abigail Woodbury (his sister) all the land she had inherited of their father John, viz. 25 acres, upland, bounded by Woodbury, Dodge and Balch. He bought and sold other land, had a healthy estate and provided for his wife and children after his death. The family homestead remained in the family until 1898.[1]

posted May 28, 2016 by Joe Cochoit Anne BWoodbury-248 and Woodbury-117 appear to represent the same person because: same dates etcposted Jun 28, 2014 by Anne B Anne BI find no evidence (good or bad) that William Woodbury and wife Judith had a son Peter. I can find evidence that Peter was the son of John & Agnes had a Peter.
I am disconnecting Peter Woodbury-248 from William & Judith so that he can be properly merged with Peter Woodbury-117,.
posted Jun 28, 2014 by Anne B Anne BRobin, I'm checking on my unmerged matches. This profile and Peter Woodbury-117 son of John & Agnes. Thanks for working on the -117 profile. I've been looking to find evidence of two Peter's. I find almost nothing on William's family. Two options possible, Peter-248 son of William has the wrong dates or Peter-248 is not the son of William but the son of John & Agnes, in which case he could be linked to John & Agnes and merged.
