Bill volunteered and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He was in the 2nd Battalion 9th Marines in Fox Co. In 1969 this battalion was ordered to leave Vietnam and return to Camp Schwan, Okinawa After that they were assigned to sea duty in and around the waters of Vietnam in support of the Army. They continued to receive combat training at Camp Fuji, Japan and Subic Bay in the Philippines. They had 2 ships USS Fort Sumpter a LST and USS St Louis and LKA that they used. Bill was on both ships and trained at Subic Bay a lot.
