Daniel Henry Short was the first man to establish Blacksmith shop in
Wise County, VA. The shop was a one room log structure on North Fork
of Pound built about 1845. He was elected Justice of the Peace and
helped organize the new county of Wise in 1856. Wrote all deeds and
public papers. Was called "Squire Dan". He was relected JOP each year
until his death.
