Occupation
James Paxton was responsible for the installation of DC power in Sennowe Park, Norfolk which is the ancestral home of Thomas Albert Cook (One of the 3 brothers who started Thomas Cook travel)James Paxton moved there along with all the equipment and took his family with him.
As described by Tom Cook (Thomas's grandson) - "it was a beautiful 25'x45' room in white tile, with 2 large black and brass generator motors and a line of glass accumulators. Only 1 of the motors ran all the time, the other was only for when the 1st needing servicing. It was my Grandfather who commissioned the work along with all the upgrades to the house in the early 1900's and I remember my father speaking of "Paxton" who was in charge of the plant. Being in this room was where I got my love for old cars and machinery as a boy, something I still have, and it was with some sadness I remember the cranes and winches taking the motors out after WW2 when the house was upgraded to AC power."
