Alfred LAFLING

(1871 - 1930)

The 1911 census is not easy to interpret. Originally Alfred was described as head of the household, but then crossed out and John Mullett shown as head. Alfred and his wife Anna are then descibed as son and daughter in law.

Trying to establish their relationship has been difficult especially as it seemed it was through Ann's side. The crossing out and rubbing out of John's age made tracing him difficult. Searches suggested 1831 for his birth . From this we find John in the 1891 census as a single 59 year old male described as deaf & dumb. He is a lodger in the house of Robert Cooper and his wife Anne ( an imbecile) who have a daughter Anna age 33 . I suspect this is Frances Anna Cooper, Alfred's wife. Robert Coopers wife Anne is I suspect John Mullett's sister. ( In 1901 John Mullett is described as 'uncle' at the house of John & Sarah Cobb in Blything).

It looks with his infirmity that he was shared out among the family
