Notes
Miscellaneous
Robert Hicks, known as The Tailor, because his family is believed to have lived in the Cotwalds of Glouchestershire, England, where wool production and tailoring is common.Robert Hicks, the Tailor, arrived in Charles City Co., VA in 1654, imported by Hugh Lee, who sold 950 acres of land jointly to Robert Hicks, William Jones Sr., and John Roberts.
Robert the Tailor was a Baptist, likely from Bristol, England, where in 1665, his son John and relatives Evans and Rieves were removed from the Baptist Church due to their departure for the colonies.
Robert the Tailor seems to have had sons, John and Captain Robert, and daughter Elizabeth plus at least one additional daughter.
The name of his wife is unknown.
The above information is taken from the research of Doralyn Hicks Short as shown in her book, The Story of Hicks.
Death
Robert Hicks "The Tailor" was not on the 1704 or 1705 tax rolls although his sons Robert and John were listed in Prince George Co., VA.This indicates that Robert likely died about 1702 and his sons moved to Prince George Co. after his death.
