Richard Ransom's will named his wife Frances and children James, Robert Hicks Ransom, and Elizabeth:1748 Brunswick. LWT Richard Ransom 27 Jun 1748/ 6 Oct 1748. Inventory dated 1749.
In the name of God Amen the twenty seventh day of June in the year of our lord 1748 I Richard Ransom of St. Andrews Parish in the Co. of Brunswick being sick and weak but of sound and perfect memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament. (Leg.) I desire that my body have a decent and Christian burial at the discretion of my Exor hereafter named
Item my slaves Andrew, Lucy and Peter in the possession of my father in Gloucester County be sold to the pament of just debts. ... wife Frances for the rest of her natural life the plantation where I now live....
I give and bequeath to my son James Ransone and to his heirs ... son Robert Hicks Ransom...
rest of estate divided between my three children James, Robin and Elizabeth
and Lastly I do hereby constitute, appoint and ordain my trusty friends Col. John Wall and Col. Nath. Edwards to be joint executors of this my last will and testament and do also appoint them and the survivour of them to be guardians to my two sons James and Robin whom I desire they may have bound apprentices to such trade or calling as they shall think fit when they come to the age of sixteen.
