This experience caused him to become obsessed with searching for gold and hidden treasure throughout the remainder of his life.
His first wife left him because of this obsession taking their child Solomon with her.
Two of his children from his marriage to Loretta Temple lost their lives on board a ship while Louis was taking his family to Tuspan, Mexico, in search of gold.
He never realized his dream of striking it rich with a gold discovery.
