John Mulford joined the 6th Texas Cavalry before the beginning of WW II and remained in the service through WW II. John’s 6th Texas Cavalry unit was incorporated into U.S. Army combat infantry units which fought in the Pacific all the way from New Guinea to the liberation of the Philippines. His unit then made many of the multiple amphibious landings further up the island chain toward Japan.For his valor in combat, he was awarded the Silver Star.
Occupation
John was an ace mechanic, and he eventually worked as a supervisor and fleet mechanic at Mission Viejo Ranch, a private hunting reserve and outdoor recreation facility in New Mexico.He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and an enthusiastic rock hound. In their later years, in semi-retirement, John and his wife Helen managed and supervised a commercial campground at Mt. Capulin, New Mexico.
