1. Joseph Hill, Sr. migrated to Jefferson County, TN, from Hampshire County, VA, and settled on Indian lands near the Cooke County/Jefferson County lines, probably by 1786, when a group of Hampshire County, VA, Methodist Church members settled in Jefferson County. Joseph Hill, Sr. was also associated with the Methodist Church in Hampshire County and likely knew these families.
2. On 3-1-1783, Joseph Hill, Sr. sold two tracts of land (150 acres and 72 acres) located on the Little Cacapeon River in Hampshire County, VA.
3. In 1807, land was granted to Joseph Hill, Sr. in Jefferson County, VA.

Burial
Joseph Hill was originally buried in Hill's Chapel Cemetery in Jefferson County, TN.In 1942 the Tennessee Valley Authority relocated the burials in this cemetery to Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, VA, to allow construction of the Douglas Reservoir.

Joseph Hill, Sr. was granted land in Jefferson County, TN in 1807, but the land was not conveyed until after his death.On 5-26-1810, his heirs took possession of 127 acres located south of the French Broad and Holston Rivers, on Muddy Creek,
This land was surveyed on 2-4-1807, just three days after Joseph Hill, Sr.'s death.
His heirs paid $127 for the land.
Probate
Although Joseph Hill, Sr. died on 2-1-1807, his estate was not settled until 1823, as recorded in Jefferson County, TN, Will Book 2, pages 102 and 403, where his property was divided among his children:John, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, William, Joseph, and James.
