From the Muster Rolls of Coryell Co., TX found on the Coryell Co., TX Rootsweb site, M.W. Hampton, private, was discharged at his request from the Minute Company headed by Capt. Sam Friend in order to join a more active company. On 9-2-1861 he joined Capt. William Clements 28th Brigade, commishioned in Coryell Co., TX as a private, age 22, with one horse. These companies were organized primarily to protect the frontier from Indian raids.Miscellaneous
