Miscellaneous
The following Obituary is posted on her Find A Grave Memorial.Elizbeth Hicks Faulkner, from the Prattville Progress.
In Memorandum.
Mrs. Elizabeth Faulkner died at home near Autaugaville on November 28,1909. She was born on February 13, 1835 in the home in which she died.
Her parents, Asa and Isabela Hicks, were among the first settlers of Autauga County. There was a large family of brothers and sisters but none of them survive her except one brother, William J. Hicks, and one Sister, Miss Margaret Hicks.
She joined the Baptist Church at Autaugaville in 1854 and was baptized by Rev. Washington Wilks.
In 1855 she was married to Col. Thomas L. Faulkner, who preceded her to rest two years and eight months.
Three children were the fruit of this union, one son and two daughters. Her younger daughter, Miss Beulah Faulkner, died in 1883, and two children are now left to mourn the great loss of one so dear.
Mrs. Faulkner has truly been a mother to the motherless, having raised our unfortunate orphans left to her care, children whom she so charitably reared to years of maturity, the writer and brother being among the number.
She devoted her beautiful life to works of love and kindness. She was indeed an angel of love and mercy. Her words and deeds but reflected the beauty and grandeur and sublimity of an eternal life. From childhood she had pursued that consistent Christian life which has endeared her to the many loved ones. She was a devoted sister, a most congenial and affectionate wife, a loving, tender, devoting mother. The gentle manner in which she treated those around her won the hearts of all who knew her.
Now she has gone from our midst and left her home overshadowed with grief and sorrow, we see beyond this vale of tears a reality of an eternal reunion in the great abode of peace and rest. Her tender acts of love and kindness gladdened the hearts of all who came in touch with her daily life.
Though her declining years were severe trials of suffering, she bore them with fortitude, was cheerful and looked upon a happier brighter side of life, always speaking words of comfort, love and cheer. She endured her afflictions with a peaceful resignation that proved her undying faith in the principles of her creed. Peacefully she resigned her soul to the companionship of the pious and pure in that fathomless realm beyond the narrow confines of the tomb, where eternal happiness is the reward of truth and kindness. She has laid her burden aside and fallen into that dreamless sleep that kisses down her eyelids still.
In her home she was the light of love. Her death has overshadowed that home with the greatest sorrow. It was sad to say goodbye to one we love so well, but the hope which we cherish of the meeting beyond is consoling to our souls.
While it is but a few short steps from the rosy morn of birth to death's night, yet the cords of affection bind us closer still to those we love when we're called upon to say that last farewell. As we are wont to cherish her many acts of love, and kindness, they linger in our memory like the echoes of love from the shores beyond the grave.
In our companionship with her orphans shared alike the bounty of her love, and the objects over care and mercy would proclaim throughout the world beauty of her life and character. The fadeless light of love penetrates our night of grief in.....
