In 1772, Isaac Lawrence bought 435 acres of land from his brother John and wife Margaret Lawrence.The land was on both sides of a fork of Lyles Creek, east of present-day Claremont, North Carolina, and Isaac named the property "Bunker Hill Plantation," in recognition of his service in the American revolution.
