Harold Ernest Curry

Harold E. Curry, tool & die maker, master electrician. Mr. Curry was born on July 31, 1921 in St. Louis, Mo., oldest son of Harry and Elsbeth Kretschmar Curry. Mr. Curry graduated from Webster High School in 1940. He went into the Army during WWII, where he broke his back in a non-combat accident. After recovering, he became a machinist and worked his way up to tool and die maker. Worked for General Motors in Flint, Mich., for a short time. Later he went to Electrical Apprentice School, became a lineman and went on to become a journeyman electrician and master electrician. He moved to Las Vegas with his parents and brother in late 1940's. For a time he lived in Boulder City and was employed at Boulder Dam, then returning to work in Las Vegas in 1950. He lived in Nevada over 50 years until his recent death. From 1956 until 1973 he served as Assistant Business Manager of I.B.E.W Local 357 after which he returned to being an electrician. He was employed by Vegas Valley Electric and Acme Electric. He worked on various construction projects throughout the Las Vegas area until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Curry's interests included amateur radio (call letters K7NVB) for which he held an advanced extra class. Other interests were electronics and radio equipment. He was an accomplished gourmet cook, was active in the Democratic Party and took an interest in labor relations, spending a few years doing federal arbitration. In his leisure time he enjoyed walking and caring for his pet german shepherd. Mr. Curry was 82 years old at the time of death. Mr. Curry's last residence was Las Vegas. The death occurred at home on September 8, 2003. His three children survive Mr. Curry. Surviving children are: Janette (& Richard) Alfaro of Surprise, Ariz., Mary Beth (& Eldon) Harcourt of Las Vegas, Mark A. Curry of Las Vegas. Surviving grandchildren are, Matthew Allen Curry, Christina Nicolle Curry, Camille Harcourt, Maxwell Harcourt, and Richard Alfaro, all of Las Vegas, Robert Alfaro of Galesburg, Ill. Great granddaughter is Brittany Alfaro of Las Vegas. Preceded in death are Juliet Kouns Curry and Mary Dean Curry.
