Services for Hazel McKaughan Barnes, 72 of 800 Lazy Lane, were held Friday, June 17 in the chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with burial in Garden of Memories. She died Monday, June 13 in a local nursing home.
Born May 30, 1911, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Cecil W. Barnes. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Hill Country Arts Foundation, charter member of the HCAF Auxiliary, Fine Arts Council of Kerr County Chamber of Commerce, co-chairman of HCAF Gazebo for four years and president of Kerrville Art Club.
Along with her sister, Alive Olen,, researched a book on the 100 year history of First Christian Church, served the church as state president, Business Women's Guild; state cabinet member of Christian Women's Fellowship; district chairman Religious Education Dept.; delegate to National Conference and "Woman's Day" speaker throughout the state. She was a board member of Inman Christian Center and Hilltop Village.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patti Babb, Barbara Lutz, Beverly and James O. Hidy, Jr. of San Antonio, Ginger and Roger Gates of Reseda, Calif.; sisters, Alice Olen and Minniebell Perkins of Kerrville and Alta Dotter of Stillwater, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Inman Christian Center, 1214 Colima, San Antonio.
