Information given by Luther Stephenson Oullette: After Luther and Walter's father, Walter Henry Stephenson, died, his mother, Alice, moved in with Henderson McAdams. She knew him as Judge McAdams. She was pregnant with Walter at the time. They didn't have anywhere else to go. Alice's sisters' Ethel and Maudie, came to pick them up and took them to San Antonio, Texas. Alice remarried to a Marshall Williams and had two sons from that marriage. Their names are Marschelle and Raymond. Alice died during childbirth to twin sons.

Aunt Maudie Ouellette adopted Luther and his brother Walter E. Stephenson and changed their names to Ouellette. She later adopted Raymond. Aunt Ethel White adopted Marschelle.

Luther was in the process of getting his family members registered with the Cherokee nation and were having difficulty. After a series of phone calls and a period of seven years, when they were about to give up, they received a letter stating that they had been approved due to the fact that they had talked to Fred Stephenson's daughter, Lillie Stephenson-Peach, and she verified that Luther and Walter Ouellette were Walter's children.

They met Lillie Stephenson-Peach, her husband, Silas Peach, their daughter, Vickie L. Peach Wilkins, and her husband, Bob Wilkins, in Bryan, Texas, at the Wilkins home for the first time August 13, 1999.

From Luther's obit: Luther Junior Oullette was taken, gently and peacefully, by our Lord on February 15, 2020 at the age of 93, after a very fulfilling life. Luther was born on June 1, 1926, in Cardin, Oklahoma. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy serving in World War II from 1939 to 1945 and the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He was extremely proud of the service to his country but modest about it as well. Whenever he was out and about, he would proudly wear his beloved "Retired Navy" hat. Many times he was approached with a "thank you for your service". Afterward, he would comment, "I don't know why people do that, I didn't do anything they wouldn't do". Luther was a hardworking man. After retired from the U.S. Navy, he spent the remainder of his career as a Civil Servant for the U.S. Army retiring from Fort Sam Houston Texas in 1981. Luther was also appreciative of the privilege his birthright and heritage afforded him as a Cherokee Citizen. He was honored to be enrolled as a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and was successful in obtaining membership for all of his blood related children and grandchildren ensuring future generations the knowledge of, and appreciation for their heritage. Luther was a devoted family man. He was married to his sweetheart, RoAnn Shea, who predeceased him in death after 66 years together. They shared the love and admiration of their 4 surviving children; Catherine, Mokry, James Ouelette, Carol Hiltpold and Douglas Ouelette. Luther and RoAnn will be remembered for their warm and giving nurturing of their 50 grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. Luther and RoAnn will be sorely missed for generations to come. Graveside service with military honors: Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
