Hugh McQueen was born in Tennessee in 1846..
He was left an orphan at an early age, and became a wanderer.
In 1861, he was in Little Rock Arkansas. When news of a rebellion reached there, he enlisted in the Confederate Army.
In 1862, he was captured by the Third Iowa Cavalry. They took a liking to him, and as he could not read. They taught him, and never sent him to a prison camp. One of the Iowa boys went home on furlough and Hugh went with him. While in Iowa, Hugh joined his captors and became a private of the Third Iowa Cavalry.

Hugh married in, 1873, to Miss L. Skeels.
They had three children
Annie M.,
William and
Estella.

Hugh's first wife died in, 1878.

He then married again in, 1881, Miss Emeline Nickson. They had one child-Ina. He was a member of John Brown Post, No. 44, Grand Army of the Republic, Belleville, Kansas.
