Paul Houston Morton [1916-2006]
Born Dec 9, 1916, in Uniontown, AR, Paul Morton died peacefully at his home in Washougal, Wash. on Aug 2, 2006. He was 89 years old. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. As a B-26 tail gunner, he and his squadron made two bombing runs during the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day. He had recently received the Golden Jubilee Medal awarded by the French government to those involved in the campaign. While stationed in France and London, he met and married Jean Tattersall. Paul had an adventurous spirit. As a young man, he saw the country by rail by hitching rides on freight trains. He was a gifted mechanic and all-around handyman. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets. Family was very important to Paul. He and Jean spent many years researching and writing about the Morton family history as well as of the Asbills, Bakers, Nolands, Quins and others. Paul is survivied by wife Jean of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters Jill Shurm of Vancouver, Wash. and Ellen McMaster of Washougal, Wash; grandsons Michael Shurm of San Jose Calif. and Brian Shurm of Seattle Wash; and four young great grandchildren, Eleanore & Benjamin Shurm of Seattle and Matthew & Mitchell Shurm of San Jose. Paul was the son of Walter H. & Carrie Hanner Mortin, grandson of Richard & Samantha Campbell Morton, great grandson of James Quin & Charlotte/Carlotta Baker Morton, and the great great grandson of Sherrod & Betsy Asbell Baker.
