Hannah married William J. Hawkins, 19 Sep 1867, Phelps Co MO.

In the 1870 Phelps Co MO Census, Hannah, age 55 & born in TN is keeping house for Wm Hawkins. Arlington Twp, p.640, Dwelling 92. William was 48 (b. say 1822), a farmer, born in South Carolina. Property valued at $7500. He apparently had the following children: Robert F. age 12, John A. age 8, Wm E. age 4, and Amanda S. age 12 [she was listed after the sons - she doesn't appear to be a child of William's but maybe M.A.'s middle name was Amanda]. Also living with the family is David Brown age 17, James Hamilton age 45 doing Farm Labor, Sarah Burton age 24, the Cook.

A FamilyTree on Ancestry lists a first marriage for William to Delila C. Ray (b. 1828, d. about 1863) - children are listed as a male, M. A., b. 1856 (this was a female - see the 1860 census), Robert F., b. 1858, & John, b. 1860 (doesn't appear in the 1860 census and was 8 in 1870). Delila must have lived until about 1866 - to have William, age 4 in 1870.

By 1880, Hannah was living with her step son Robert Hawkins, she was named as his Mother. They were still in Phelps Co, p.414b.

VA. John Hawkins, age 19, Robert's younger brother and William Hawkins, listed as a 16 year old cousin - his father b. GA, mother b. MO.


Published in Goodspeed's The Hisory of Phelps County, Missouri, 1889, a biography which may mention William J. Hawkins, husband of Hannah. The bio is of Perry D. Hawkins, born in Phelps Co, 11 Jan 1854 (it would have been Pulaski Co in 1854) and married Miss Lizzie Marshall. Perry was the son of Robert P. & Rhoda (Bryant) Hawkins. Robert was in turn the son of Solomon Hawkins, born 23 Oct 1798, Greenville District, SC, who married Sophronia Isabel Duncan on 18 Dec 1821. Solomon had removed to Georgia in 1826, then to Missouri in 1831. Because of the changing county boundaries, he lived in Crawford, Maries, Pulaski & Phelps without moving. Children of Solomon & Sophronia included William J., James P. Robert P., Alfred, Perry Eaton (surviving in 1889), Melissa Susanna, Mary M., Eliza Louis, John B., Amanda M., Permelia Elizabeth, and an infant son.

FindAGrave shows Perry David Hawkins, b. 11 Jan 1854, died 18 Mar 1926, buried Newburg Cemetery, Phelps Co, MO - wife Lizzie is buried there as well. Perry Eden Hawkins was born 1 Sep 1830 in Georgia, died 8 Aug 1912, Phelps Co, age 81y 9m 8d and is buried Cave Spring Cemetery, Phelps Co - as the only entry for that cemetery. Robert P. Hawkins was born 25 Nov 1825, d. 3 Dec 1871 and is buried Bryant Farm Cemetery, as is his wife Rhoda - probably the farm of the family of his wife - Phelps Co. No other Hawkins shown as buried on the Bryant Farm.
