Captain Joseph Jesse Comstock, son of Captain Jesse Comstock, bore general reputation as one of the most able masters and navigators of his day. One of his sons, Captain Charles Cook Comstock, was captain of the steamer, 'Golden Gate', and died in Panama in 1873.
