Alton J. Sargent, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. He was born Sept. 15, 1932. He was a retired quality control engineer for ITT, where he worked for 31 years. He worked at Cortelco Telephone Outlet, at Sargent's Restaurant and in real estate. He was a radio operator and a short wave Morse code operator in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of the Crossroads, and a member of the church board and the Tweenagers Sunday School Class. He was an honorable family man who lovingly accepted his children's friends in his home as they grew up. He enjoyed repairing telephones, bowling, golf, travel and playing with his granddaughter.
Burial with full military honors will be at the Veterans Garden of Honor at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Hight Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors his wife of 56 years, Willie Mae Sargent; a son, Keith Sargent; a daughter, Rebecca Sargent Claxton; a granddaughter, Ilyssa Claxton; one brother, Enoch (Mary) Sargent; and a sister, Sue Wilburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Kate Sargent.
Members of the Tweenagers Sunday School Class will serve as pallbearers
