Charles M. Grissom, 56, shot his wife, Julia, 46, three times with a revolver and turning the weapon on himself, sent a bullet throught his head, killing himself almost instantly, shortly before 3 o'clock this morning.
Mrs. Grissom, who died this evening, was shot twice in the left breat and once just below the breast, the latter bullet going through her body. The shooting ocurred in the bedrom. Grissom's wife, after being shot, ran with the bullets in her body and fell in the front yard. At the time of the shooting, a son, Frank, whose thirteenth birthday was today had arisen from his bed because he had heard his parents quarreling. Just as he opened a door to see what was the matter, he saw his father starding facing his mother with the revolver in both of his hands. Frank closed the door and the shots following a few minutes late.
....The trouble this morning was the culmination of an unhappy married life. Grissom recently resigned his postion at the Maxwell factory and when asked sy, said, "I am going to meet my Maker" Fewllow workmen laughted and joked with him over his threat to commit suicide, telling him that iwas too hot for anything of that kind.
Just a month ago tomorrow Mrs. Grissom visted the firm of Evans & Dewitt, local attorneys, and said she wished to file suit for a divorce. She had the attorneys draw up a complaint which charged that Grissom was guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment in that he would call her abusive names and accused her of being untrue to him. Mrs. Grissom claimed that her husband accused her of associating with one George Heard. In defending herself against this charge Mrs. Grissom claimed that she had to do public washings to support herself and children and that she washed for Heard. She staed she had always been a true and faithful wife to her husband. The divorce was never filed.
