Thomas was likely the second son of John Steere.

Deed dated 7 Nov 1696 from John Steere in "Consideration of the fatherly love & natural Affection" to "my well beloved son Thomas Steere".

6 May 1701, Thomas Steere was made a freeman of the colony of Rhode Island.

10 Dec 1702. Mr. Steere bought from Richard Arnold, Sen. [his father-in-law], 30 acres of land lying 6 miles NW from the salt water harbor, within the township of Providence and bordering upon the Wanasquatucket River.

In 1710, Thomas' brother, John Steere Jr., deeded to him, 10 acres lying near Winnekheague and a branch of the Wonasquatucket River and the highway leading to Capt. Arnold's Mills.

The Steere Genealogy states that Capt. Richard had devised one half of his mills at Nissatasket to his son-in-law Thomas Steere in 1710.
26 Mar 1712 Richard, John & Thomas Arnold [for a valuable sum] deeded one half of a tract of land in Providence, both sides of the Wanasquatucket River, at or near the corn mill and saw mill which formerly belonged to their father, Richard Arnold. Apparently this deed gave Thomas Steere full possession of the mills.

13 Mar 1711/12 Thomas received another deed from his father for one full right in the thatch beds in Providence in Hawking's Cove.

In 1715, Thomas Steere was a deputy in the General Assembly.

In 1718, Thomas bought of his father, a parcel on Dexter's Lane in Providence.

In 1721, Thomas Olney [Senr] conveyed to Thomas Steere the right to land to be taken up on the east side of the Seven Mile Line, in and upon the forty acre division which was the original right of Olney.

2 Apr 1722. Thomas Steere purchased 31 acres from his father, near John Hawking's dwelling-house and bounded as by deed recorded in Smithfield. The deed was witnessed by John Steere Jr. and Joseph Mowry.

29 Jun, 1723. Thomas bought from his brother William Steere, a tract lying about a mile NW from Chagomist Pond, joining the land of Thomas Steere. Also in 1723, Thomas bought 40 acres from William Gully.

21 Apr 1726. Thomas Steere purchased from Roger Williams [son of Daniel], 30 acres not yet laid out on the east side of the Seven Mile Line, in the right of Daniel Williams; 25 of the said 30 acres in the 2nd forty acre division and four acres on the Cedar Swamp. In the same Thomas also acquired land from William Coman as noted in an agreement of Thomas' son Richard in 1752.

17 Mar 1731, Thomas Steere was a member of the first council in the new town of Smithfield. He was again a councilman in 1734.

22 Aug 1735 is the date of Thomas Steere's will - he departed this life on August 27th. He bequeathed to his wife Mehitable, all the personal estate that was her former husband's and 70£. She was to have the liberty to dwell in his house with her family until they became of age. Daughter Phebe Mathewson to have 120£. Daughter Mary Mowry to have have land laid out in partnership with Capt. Joseph Mowry being 25 acres and 80£. To sons Thomas and Richard, all my lands. Thomas to have the land on the east side of the Great Bridge to Samuel Aldrich's, his mother-in-law [stepmother] to have use of the housing and improvements for life if she doesn't remarry. The two sons are to have the land near Philip Smith's, two lots in Providence, and one half of the thatch bed - equally divided. Richard to have land SW of the Ready meadow and land near the Horse Swamp and that the lies between Dexter and Hopkins. The two sons to have the land lying near Noah Smith and the Little Cedar Swamp to be equally divided. All moveable estate to sons Thomas & Richard except silver and gold which is to be divided equally among all four children. Son Thomas to be Executor. Signed: Thomas Steere

15 Sep 1735, Will presented by witnesses who made oath and Thomas Steere, son, was appointed the Executor. Rec. 24 Dec 1735.

Inventory states that he died 27 Aug 1735. Total estate was worth over 808£.
Mehitable's property from her former marriage was valued at 71£. The inventory dated 17 Sep 1735 by Joshua Winsor and Peter Aldrich.

After the death of Mary Arnold, Thomas married Mehitable (Evans) Plummer, widow of Samuel Plummer. She was the daughter of Richard and Mary Evans. They had no children. Mehitable made a will 4 Jan 1737, then living in Glocester. She left her property to her children by Plummer.
