Robert William Wilson, 97, of Orange died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at North Orange Baptist Church with Reverend Scott McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Robert was born in Sopher, Choctaw County, Oklahoma on July 1, 1913. He was the son of Thomas Bennett Wilson and Mary Frances (Brittain) Wilson. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. Robert was a member of North Orange Baptist Church, V.F.W. Post 4759 in Starks, Louisiana and the American Legion in Vinton, Louisiana.
Robert was preceded in death by his grandsons, Johnny Glenn, Jr. and Christopher Wilson; and son-in-law, John Glenn. Robert is survived by his wife, Lildred ‘Ruth’ (Higginbotham) Wilson of Orange; daughters, Maynora Glenn of Rowlett, Alice Bridie-Granhold of Plano, Debbie Mata and her husband, Willie of Houston; and son, Ben Robert Wilson of Orange. Robert is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Tamara Power, Tommy, Ronnie and Eric Granhold, Servaundo Mata, Jillena Flores, Isaiah Mata, Angie Perkins and ‘ B. J.’ Ben Robert Wilson, Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren, Baileigh Perkins, Elliot Perkins, Isaiah Mata, Zack, Maddie, and Jake Granhold, Auriana Mata, Gianna Mata-Flores and Alexandra McCay.
