John J. Hardin, son of William N. and Mahulda Hardin, was born in Gentry county, Missouri, Sept. 18, 1854. He was united in marriage to Minerva J. Crosswhite Jan. 14, 1877. To this union twelve children were born, 7 sons and 5 daughters, namely, Joel, Ira, Ornice, Jean, Wilbary, Effie, George, Edward, Harry, Rose, Madge and Harley. They had the pleasure of rearing all their children to maturity. The youngest child was 20 years old before they had a death in the family, that being their son Edward who died In 1918 in the service and their daughter Madge who died in 1927.
His father and mother moved to this state from Kentucky in 1851 and had resided here, except one year in Texas and two years in Kansas, all his life. After his marriage he and his wife were converted and united with the Freewill Baptist church at Fairview in the year of 1886. He had been sick about ten weeks and bore his suffering patiently. His life seemed a benediction. His daughter asked him during his sickness about his Lord and he remarked everything was all right.
He leaves to mourn his loss the above named children, one sister, Mrs. Nancy Peery, of Little River, Kans., and two brothers, Dan, of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Ed, of Loveland, Iowa, and 40 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. His wife preceded him ten years ago.
The funeral was held at Falrview Monday afternoon and he was laid to rest in that cemetery.
