Visitation for Lloyd Ralph Wood will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Lloyd was born July 19, 1927 in Mount Ida, Arkansas and he passed away May 17, 2012 in Bakersfield with his family by his side.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Wood in 2005. He is survived by his seven children: son, John Wood; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jane Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Frank Murphy; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Daves; son, Lonnie Wood; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Merri Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Rob Christain; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Compagnoni; sisters, Bernice, Johnny Faye, and Ann; brother, Robert Wood; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dad was a true piece of Kern History, working for Tidewater Oil, Getty Oil and Texaco, over a span of 42 years. He held the top sonority spot on the west coast when he retired. He served in the Navy and one day came upon my grandmothers boarding house looking for a place to stay, and stay he did. He met my mother and started a life well lived raising seven of us along the way. He was a firm father but a fair one. His word was his bond and a handshake meant everything to him.
Finally, a special thank you to Ana Reyna with Hoffmann Hospice for her caring attitude and Dee Sanchez for all her love, compassion and exceptional care for him as well as my mother so many years ago. A huge thank you our brother Lonnie for never leaving him when things got rough and ensuring his dignity to the end.
