David Glendon Christy Sr., 89, passed away Jan. 30, 2009, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
David was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Dardanelle to Roy and Bernice "Bray" Christy.
He attended school in Spiro and was raised by his stepfather, Newton Lester, and his mother.
David married Leta Mae Cantwell of Spiro in 1936. They moved to CA in the 50s, where David worked in construction and was a proud member of the Teamster's Union until his retirement in 1977, when he returned home to Spiro. He was a member of Spiro Woodlawn Assembly Church.
He is survived by two sons, David Jr. and wife Kathleen of Keota, OK, and James and wife Ramona of Wister, OK; two daughters, Jane Barbour-Davies and her husband Frank of Yorba Linda, CA, and Eberly Simanson and her husband Chuck of Sunriver, OR; two step-siblings, Pauline Brown of Spiro and Bill Lester of Stillwater, OK; seven grandchildren, Rhonda Sparks, Troy Barbour, David Lee Christy, James Christy, Jennifer Sebo, Sarah Canale and Kelly Simanson; four g-grandchildren, Christy Sparks, Jake Sparks, Devon Christy and Samantha Christy.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his infant daughter, Glenda Gay; and his two step-siblings, Darwin Lester and Mildred Stewart.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Thurs, Feb. 5, 2009, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial and committal services will be held Mon, Feb. 9, 2009, at Parklawn Cemetery in Commerce, CA.
