Funeral services for Junior Charles Kennedy, 87, will be held Mon., Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Okemah with Rev. Jeannie McMahan officiating. He died Wed., Oct. 25 at his home in Okemah.
Born May 6, 1919 in Banner Community in Okfuskee County to Charles Kennedy and Elizabeth (Long) Kennedy, he had been a resident of the Okemah area all his life. He and Wilma Lucile Hodges married Feb. 1, 1944 in Okemah and she preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2001. He left home at the age of 13 and joined the CCC. He was later sent to Wyoming to fight forest fires. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Hewas part of th Military Police with the Army and fought battles in Sicily and Salerno, Italy. He was a retired carpenter; he loved gardening, hunting, fishing and playing dominoes. Also, he was a member of the First Christian Church of Okemah.
Also preceding him in death were is parents and one son, Roger Kennedy.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Steyer and husband, William, of Okemah and Joy Morrison and husband, Vincent, of Piedmont; one brother, Robert Kennedy, of Okemah and one sister, Jewel Dick of Cathedral City, Calif.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchilden.
