I don't know where Thomas had been living prior to 1870. But in that year he appears in the White Creek census along with his brother Royal. Thos. C. Gifford, Wool Dealer, age 54. Eliza 38. Nellie age 18. Omii Kellogg, age, white male born in Massachusetts, age 83.

1880. Thomas C. Gifford, Wool Dealer, age 62. Eliza age 48. Chloe M. Baker, mother-in-law, age 75, born in Vermont. Mary A. Sheridan age 16, a Servant, born in Ireland.

The DAR Lineage books give a Lydia Kenyon as wife of Thomas C. Gifford and a daughter named Sarah. If so, Eliza Baker must have been a second wife and daughter Sarah was old enough that she was not living with her father by 1870.
