Willie Mae Redding was born in Paris, Arkansas to Arthur and Jewel Walker. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Redding. They spent their 65 years of married life in Fayetteville, where they worked and raised their only daughter, Donna.
She was a beautiful woman of strong Christian values, had a warm and giving heart and old-fashioned work ethics. She loved to cook and her table was always full, ready to serve anyone lucky enough to dine on her fried chicken and homemade rolls. Her cabinets overflowed with homemade jams and jellies. She also loved to sew, and dressed herself and her daughter in fashionable, hand-sewn clothing. Her home was always sparking clean and her disposition was always sunny. She managed to accomplish all this after a full day at JC Penney, where she worked for over 30 years.
Willie was lovingly known as Meme by her grandchildren who filled her life with joy. They were big fans of her home-cooking, especially her homemade fudge and caramel corn. She taught, inspired and loved unconditionally.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don Colbert of Little Rock; grandchildren Elizabeth (Jeff) Smith of Elkins, Arkansas, Andy (Sarah) Clark of Chicago, Illinois, Mark (Amy) Colbert of Bryant, Arkansas, Debbie (Rick) Wright, David Colbert and Cinny Bass, all of Little Rock; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, officiated by Rev. Dexter Howard.
