(15 Dec 1918 - 6 Oct 2008)

Jeanne D'Arc Richey Christian passed away on October 6, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. She was 89. Jeanne was born in Tucson, Arizona on December 15, 1918. She was the fourth of five children born to Marie Grandpre and Tom Richey. Her father was a practicing territorial attorney at the turn of the century and Jeanne likened him to Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird - her favorite movie. Jeanne graduated from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of Kapa Alpha Theta sorority and became a journalist and broadcaster. Long before her time, she had her own talk radio program in Tucson called The Town Crier. During World War II, she was Women's Air Service Pilot (WASP) trainee and received an honorable discharge from the military for her service. Throughout her life, Jeanne donated generously of her time and money to a variety of charities and community causes. She is predeceased by her husband, Wayne Christian and is survived by her sister, Imogene Russell of Tucson, Arizona, along with her four children: Richey Christian Haden, Wayne A. Christian II, Worth M. Christian and M'Liss Christian. In her later years, Jeanne took great pride and pleasure in her six grandchildren: Dr. Christian Haden of Dallas, Assistant District Attorney Clayton Haden of San Antonio, United States Army First Lieutenant Benjamin Hess Christian of New Jersey, Austin College Freshman Chase Taylor McClinchie, Alamo Heights High School sophomore, Kyle Christian McClinchie and Churchill High School sophomore Jordan Schull. Her first great grandchild is due on her birthday. At Jeanne's request, there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered over Mount Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona where she and her brothers and sisters spent summers in their youth. Donations may be made in Jeanne's honor to the Department of Ophthalmology at the U.T. Health Science Center, San Antonio or VistaCare, to whom her loving family is ever grateful.
