Carolyn Ann Hughes

(30 Dec 1947 - 9 Dec 2020)

Carolyn Ann Hughes Bertram passed away on December 9, 2020 at her home. She was born on December 30, 1947 in Dallas, Texas. Carolyn graduated from Pharr San Juan Alamo High School and then studied at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She enjoyed a career in various occupations including being an independent catastrophe insurance adjuster with her husband, Bill for many years. Carolyn was a self proclaimed southern belle and would shower friends, family and people that she met with southern hospitality and a very cold margarita on a summer day.

Carolyn enjoyed traveling to many countries with Bill, the love of her life.. Together they lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Duri Riau, Sumatra, Singapore, and finally Bangkok, Thailand before returning to live in Lakeway, Texas and several towns in California and Florida before moving to Justin, in 2011. Carolyn had a very special bond with her Aunt Bessie Adele Nanus and lived with her prior to her marriage to Bill. Her many passions included her Silkie dogs, Brandy, Joan Bear Arc and finally Ziva in that order. She also loved hummingbirds and just last year she was able to have a hummingbird license plate for her car. She loved reading, coffee, crawfish, chicken salad and just being with her friends and family especially at holidays. Carolyn was a fan of The Highwaymen, and Bill knew that her favorite of the group was Kris Kristofferson. Carolyn was thankful for all those that were willing to lend a hand and help her when she needed assistance. Duane Dalager, was a "God send" in helping care for and assist Carolyn in her final days. Thank you Duane for your outpouring of compassion, care and attentiveness.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Joe Kenneth (J.K.) Hughes, mother, La Villa Louise McCord Hughes, stepmother, Vivian Hughes, brother, Robert Hughes, half-brother, Trey Hughes, and husband Billy Bob Bertram.

Carolyn's memory will live on in each one of us. For we have been blessed to have known such a beautiful person, with a spirit and soul that is almost impossible to not be drawn to. She made us smile, she made us laugh, she made us think. She was the type of person that to know her, was to have a "Carolyn moment" with her. Those moments don't fade away, for they are the ones that touch our heart and what make her so special to us all. Perhaps it was laughing until you were crying, or crying until she had you laughing. We miss you Carolyn, we miss your laugh, your sweet voice, your smile and the way your eyes lit up the room.. We miss you and take comfort in knowing that you are at home and we will see you again someday.
