"James Penniman, born in England, came probably in the Lion, in 1631 with John Winthrop, Jr., Admitted freeman, March 6, 1631/2. Of Boston at first, but of Braintree in 1639. His wife was Lydia Eliot, daughter of Bennett Eliot of Nazing, England. She was baptized there, July 1, 1610. she was the sister of Rev. John Eliot, the "Apostle to the Indians." James Penniman died Dec. 26, 1664. His will, dated Dec 18, 1664, was proved Jan 31, 1664/5 and recorded in Suffolk Probate, I-443. ....Sworn to in court by Lydia Penniman, widow of James.
She married (2d) Dec 7, 1665, Thomas Wight, as his second wife. He died March 17, 1674."
