(1811 - 14 Apr 1897)

Levi was the son of William Wilson Fulbright, b. 8 Jan 1785, Buncombe Co NC, in turn a son of John and Elizabeth (Coulter) Fulbright. William died 22 Sep 1843, Walnut Hill, Greene Co MO, buried Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield. He married about 1807 in Buncombe Co, Ruth Hollingsworth who is buried with him. She was b. 28 Sep 1791, d. 30 Apr 1874. William was considered the "founder of Springfield" - his brothers David, John, Martin, & Daniel all also came to Missouri but only William moved to and stayed in Greene Co. The story is told that she was born to Quaker parents, joined the Methodist Church about 1803, but about 1834, Rev. During the war he served for about six months in the southwest portion of the state in a volunteer company of the Confederate Infantry, being a participant in the battle of Oak Hill, in which engagement he was beaten over the head with a sword, which made him deaf for life. He also almost lost the use of his shoulder and arm. After the war he tried to retrieve his fallen fortunes, but in 1874 his house and all its contents were burned to the ground.
