No services are planned for artist and teacher Frances Hoar Tucksess, 86, who died Wednesday in a local hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 12, 1898, in Philadelphia, Pa. She received art training on a four-year scholarship at the art school of the Pennsylvania Museum of Art. She was asked to teach at the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis where she met her husband, Frederick C. Trucksess.
They were married at Vally Forge, Pa., on Aug 31, 1927 after which they moved to Boulder, Colo., where they both taught in the University of Colorado's art department.
Mrs. Trucksess' other teacing experiences include 16 years as supervisor of art in the Boulder public school system and guest lecturer and instructor at Colorado State College, Adam's State Collete & Western State College, both in Colorado and Highlands University in New Mexico.
She is the author of "Creative Art, A Guide for Elementary Teachers" which sold 10,000 copies in the United States and 11 foreign countries.
She was a recognized watercolorist and has shown her work extensively in major shows throughout the country and recently received awards from several national exhibitions.
Her work was requested for a publication and exhibition entitled "The Woman Artist in the American West, 1860-1960" at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton.
She, her husband and her daughter, Ann Pierce, have had numerous three-person shows, one of which was circulated nationally on an extensive two-year tour. Their work is scheduled to be exhibited in September in the George Orberg Gallery at the Creative Arts Center in Chico.
She is survived by her husband Frederick; a son Dr. Mark E. of Shelton, Wash., a daughter, Ann Trucksess Pierce of Chico; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the Lung or Heart associations or to the Chico State University art department in care of Brusie Funeral Home which is handling the arrangements.
