Mustered in at Lancaster, Coal County, MO, Company C., 2nd Cavalry, Missouri State Militia, Col. Rodgers, 10 Mar 1862. He was discharged 21 Mar 1865, at St. Louis, MO.

Surgeons determined he was 75% disabled but able to care for himself in the barracks.
Approved 4 Feb 1903.
Letter to the home dated 11 Oct 1903 states a request for his discharge papers as his furlow is up and he intends to go to California as soon as he can get ready. Discharge and papers sent on 14 Oct 1903.
Note: This home was established in 1891, the first of four built for Washington state veterans. It is still active.

Veterans Payment Cards show his pension as paid from 11 Mar 1907 with an increase, 1 May 1911. He is noted as having died 14 Feb 1912. There is a Washington Death Certificate stating John James Noakes died at Milton, Pierce Co, WA on 14 Feb 1912, age 76 years, 28 days. His parents: William Noakes and Elizabeth Warren.
