Onal J. "Joe" Philpott of Clever, Mo., died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, in his home. He was 83.
Philpott was born April 7, 1919, in Neosho, Mo., to Ben and Janie (Baker) Philpott. He moved to Clever in 1989 from Miami.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in Northern Italy, North Africa, Sicily, Oran, Cassion, Anzio and among the group that liberated Rome. He was in Mark Clark's 5th Army and served with General Patton. He received five Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and a Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at B&M Automotive in Miami. He was a member of Hurley Baptist Church in Clever.
He married Vida Lorene Cox on Nov. 22, 1941. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard, and an infant sister.
Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Delores and Dennis Roy of Billings, Mo.; two brothers, Marvin Philpott of Carlsbad, N.M., and Buck Philpott of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Eva Schultz of Fairland and Nellie Kinzer of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren and their spouses, Danny and Melissa Dover Jr., Kristi and Jamie Claybough, Justin Dover, Stacy and Tim Herd and Shelly and Greg Roy, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Meadors Funeral Home in Clever with the Rev. Larry Winfree officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be 3 p.m. in Hickory Grove Cemetery, near Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Hurley Baptist Church building fund.

I have an autosomal relationship to this line - but it's unclear exactly how.
