There was a dispute over 40 acres of land where the Faulkners lived There isn't enough information in the file to determine the outcome although it seems a quit claim may have been issued to Mr. & Mrs. McCorkle. William Gorton had married John Faulkner's mother, Minerva, and they lived on the 40 acres until the time of his death. Gorton was her 2nd husband and he died in 1856, leaving the widow John Faulkner's mother and children by his first wife. The children had all died years ago and no grandchildren can be located. After the death of Gorton, the widow and John Faulkner resided on the tract which she claimed to own by virtue of a will. John Faulkner later claimed to own same and occupied it until his death.
