John White

There is ample evidence of an earlier John White in Logan Co. He is mentioned several times in the early court records. It is quite likely there were two John Whites.
26 Mar 1793. John White proved as a witness to the bill of sale from Stephen & Fenby Jones to Zachariah Askey.
23 Jul 1793. John White one of eight men, or any three, to view & lay off a road from the meeting house to the Red Banks on the Ohio River
23 July 1794. John White exempt from paying tax. [over 60? Revolutionary soldier?]
24 Mar 1795 Mary Robertson, William Allen, John White & Charles Steward appeared for the safekeeping of the property of the ophans of Alexander Robertson, dec'd.
25 May 1795. Bill of sale from Solomon White to John White Jr winessed by Young Ewing, Geo. Wallis, Reubin Ewing.
26 Jul 1796. Thomas Davidson, George McLean, Richard Maulding & John White, or any three, to view laying off a road from the Logan courthouse towards the settlement on the West fork of Red River, striking the path through the Clay Lick Wood.

Estate records report the Inventory of a John White, dated 10 Dec 1803. Appr: William Lee, William Gilham, & Samuel Gordon. WB A, p.40

1820 Census. This John White was living between his father-in-law, Hezekiah Proctor, and his brothers-in-law, George & Charles Proctor. 1m under 10, 1m 16-18, 1m 16-26 [probably same as the 16-18 year old], 1m 26-45 [John]. 2f under 10. 1f 26-45 [Fanny]
There seem to be children born prior to 1820, that I have not identified.

Logan Co DB W, p.490 Know all men by these presents that I John White of the County of Madison, State of Miss. Do authorize and appoint G. W. Hoy of the county of Simpson, State of KY my attorney in fact to transact certain business in the state of KY that is to say a suit now pending in the Logan Circuit Court between sd White & B. A. Ray . He the said G. W. Hoy is authorized to bring suit in any of the courts of the above written state of KY or to do or perform all other business as my true and lawfull attorney & all his acts shall be as binding on me as the I myself had been present to have performed them. This power of attorney Given under my hand the 15th day of January 1839. Signed: John White

p.41 25 Nov 1837 John White by Wm Barnett Commission for that purpose apptd by Logan Circuit Court to Burket A. Ray. Ray was Complainant, White defendant. Sell land & Negroes in Logan Co having advertised & exposed to sale to the highest bidder at the Court house in Russellville two tracts. One of 102 acres on Clear Fork of Gasper River where sd White lived & conveyed to him by Hezekiah Proctor. One other purchased by sd White from sd Proctor & ? Burnett cont 46 acres adjoining. The complainant being the highest bidder became the purchaser at $800. Signed: John White by Wm Barnett Commissioner.

INDEPENDENT DEMOCRAT of Canton MS. Married by James Priestly, Esq. on May 5, 1843, John M. Haden of Kentucky to Miss Francis A. White, daughter of John White, Esq. formerly of KY now of this county. [As the Comforts, 1st cousins, lived in Canton as well as others from Logan Co - I believe this may very well be the marriage of the brother of my husband's ancestor and possibly this is the John White who later moved to MS.]

Found in Madison Co MS [Canton] in the 1850 Census is John White age 61 b. in VA (1789) with the following: Elizabeth J age 27. Frances Y. age 54 [seems to be out of order, but this would seem to be Fanny], Louisa D age 16, Martha D age 14, James ?E age 23. All young people born in KY. P.172, Household 621.
