The American Genealogist, Vol 83, Feb 2009, p.13-18
Leslie Mahler presents records from old and New England showing the Nathaniel Ward of Hartford, CT, was a son of Edward Ward of Little Wratting, Suffolk, England, and was joined in New England by two sisters, Mary Ward Cutting, wife of John Cutting of Newbury, and Rebecca Ward Allen, wife of Walter Allen of Newbury.

Will of Edward Warde, yeoman, was written 9 Jan 1620 and proved 7 Mar 1620. He instructs his wife Judeth "so as she shall leave one upper chamber, furnished for mine executor, whosoever he be, viz., one bed & all things thereunto belonging, called Joseph's chamber." He bequeaths to wife Judith; sons Nathaniel, Leonard [may be mistranscription], Thomas and Edward; daughters Lydia, Mary, Rebecca, and and Susan. Son Thomas Ward was named sole executor. He left a considerable estate for the time - from 10 to 50 pounds of six of his children. There are no last names for the daughters. Indications are that son Edward was a minor.

EDWARD WARDE of Little Wrathinge [Wratting], Suffolk, yeoman, 9 Jan 1620, proved at Ipswich 7 Mar 1620. To my wife Judeth my house, orchard and garden, with the shepps of bees therein, during her natural life, so as she shall leave one upper chamber, furnished for mine executor, whosoever he be, viz. one bed and all things thereunto belonging, called Joseph's chamber. To my son Nathaniel Warde forty pounds and my best riding cloak. To my son Leonard [?] fifty pounds and my best cloak, when his apprenticeship shall come forth. To Lydia, my daughter, thirty pounds. To Mary, my daughter, twenty pounds. To Rebecca Warde, my daughter, forty pounds. To Susan, my daughter, ten pounds. Son Thomas Ward to be sole executor. To son Edward Ward after his time shall come forth &c.
Consistory Ct. Norwich. Bk. Williams 60.
[Edward Warde, the testator, was I presume the brother of Rev. John Ward of Haverhill, named by him (John) in his will...ED.]

In a will written in 1626 and proved 24 April 1627, in Ipswich, Susan Browne, widow of James, made provisions for her mother, Judith Warde, her sister Mary Cutting, her sister Rachel Warde, and her brother Edward Warde.

The will of Nathaniel Ward of Hadley, MA was dated 27 May 1664. It makes a bequest to "my Kinsman Noys, Son to my Sister Cutting's daughter towards his bringing up at colledge." Nathaniel's sister Mary married John Cutting. Their daughter Mary married Nicholas Noyes. This would be her grandson (Leslie Mahler; The English Origin of Nathaniel Ward of Hartford, Connecticut, and Hadley, Massachusetts, etc.; The American Genealogist; Vol. 83, No. 1; January/April 2008, on http://markhamandcollins.auroris.com/).
