Mary Parmenter

( - 30 Aug 1727)

Probably the second wife of John Allen:
Mary's birth can be found in Sudbury vital records: Parmenter, Mary, daughter of John and Amy, June 10, 1644.

Mary Parmenter was first married to Richard Burke.
The earliest we know of her husband Richard was their marriage record from Sudbury vital records: Burke, Richard and Mary Parmenter. June 24, 1670. MR Previous to this marriage record, according to a family history written on the subject of Richard Burke and his descendants (The Burke and Alvord Memorial), nothing is known about Richard. He was probably born about 1640 (where?) and owned land in both Sudbury and Stow. He bought land in Sudbury in 1670 and in Stow in 1685. His family is listed on page 14 and 15, including six known children: Richard, John, Joseph, Mary, Jonas, and Thomas. After his death, John and his wife Mary were the administrators of his estate, and John was guardian to both Jonas and Thomas.
Three of their children's births can be found in Sudbury vital records:
BURK
Joseph, ch. Richard and Mary, Apr. 1, 1676.
Mary, ch. Richard and Mary, Sept. 25, 1680.
Jonas, s. Richard and Mary, June 11, 1683.

All the Burke children:
children;
1. Richard Burke born 16, Apr. 1671 died 13, Apr. 1731 married Abigail Sawtell.
2. John Burke born 1674 died 1695 married Rebecca.
3. Joseph Burke born 1, Apr. 1676.
4. Mary Burke born 25, Sept. 1680 married George Parmenter.
5. Jonas Burke born 4, Jan. 1683 married Hannah Johnson.
6. Thomas Burke born 1, Nov 1686 married Mercy Parmenter

Before her marriage to Richard Burke, Mary apparently had a baby out of wedlock.
Mary, who was unmarried at the time, had a son (see note below), Abigail b 24 Apr 1665, by Christopher Bannister before she married Richard Burke. [Sudbury VR] Mary and Christopher were never married. Mary's father's will stated in part; "...Dau Mary is to receive 15 pounds to be paid with last payment due me from Christopher Bannister (the results of a paternity suit)..." [Middlesex Co Probate Rec. #16930] [I am not sure the part about Abigail being a son is correct...] "On 26 Feb. 1665 Sergeant Parmenter of Sudbury sued Christopher Bannister of Marlborough for “trespess for defiling his daughter (Mary) and getting her with child.” In Sudbury vital records the birth is listed as follows: "Parminter, Abiel, ch. Mary, April 24, 1665." Mary's child Abigail is mentioned in Mary's Brother's will (Joseph) as "cousin Abigail daughter of my loving sister Mary Burt."
