Funeral service for Freeman F. Roberts will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Baden and Rev. Mike Teel officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cement Cemetery, Cement, Oklahoma, under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Freeman F. Roberts, age 80, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born October 23, 1934 in Cement, Oklahoma, to Finis Fredrick Roberts and Helen Cloe Clift. He grew up in Cement and was a 1952 graduate of Cement High School. He married Jacquita A. Sconyers on June 29, 1956 in Cement.
Immediately after his high school graduation he went to work in the oil field. In 1958 Freeman began a 31 year career with Long Bell Lumber, a division of International Paper Company. Following his retirement Freeman was the store manager of the Lawton Farmers COOP for five years. He also enjoyed his participation in Roberts and Sons Shorthorns.
Freeman had attended Cameron Baptist Church and at the time of his death was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lawton Rangers and volunteered as a ticket taker at the annual rodeo, along with John Cherry, for many years. He was past president of the Comanche County Cattleman’s Association, past president of the Oklahoma Shorthorn Association and a former member of the Lawton Planning Commission. He was involved for many years with the Comanche County Spring Livestock Show and had served as both the Swine Superintendent and the General Superintendent.
He enjoyed gardening and his love for family was always evident.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; four children and their spouses, Patty and Oscar Codopony, Binger, Oklahoma, Freda and Robert Bishop, Lawton, Freddy and Lee Roberts, O’Donnell, Texas and Darla and Richard McCauley, Waurika; a sister, Norma Greenwood, Holdenville; a brother and sister in law, Willard and Suzette Ezzell, Elgin; grandchildren and their spouses, Richard Codopony, Tiffany and Dustin Smith, Ryan McCauley and fiancé Margaret, Robert and Ashley Codopony, Ross McCauley and fiancé Rana, Ashley and Jeremy Whitecotton, Shelby Roberts, Katie McCauley, Lacey Roberts and Flint Roberts; great grandchildren, Kaydence, KariAnn, Rowdee, Malory, Bishop, Tytus, Jaxon and a baby due in March; sisters in law, Rebecca Clift and Husband D.R. and Rowanna Hargus and husband Dale; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, Elza Ezzell, a daughter, Sandra Roberts, a grandson, Tyson Bishop, a sister, Estell Taylor and brothers Charles Roberts, Irvin Ezzell and A.C. Ezzell.
