Williamsburg - Carl Ritter Grounds, 92, of Williamsburg, IN. passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at his residence, with family by his side.
He was born January 24, 1923 in Whitaker, Indiana the son of Floyd and Bedda (Denney) Grounds. He was a graduate of Martinsville H.S. He honorably served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Corp.
Carl retired in 1984 after fifteen years in Engineering Services with the V.A. Hospital of Ft. Wayne, IN. He was past president of AFGE Local 1384 in Ft. Wayne, IN. He enjoyed spending his leisure time fishing and gardening. He was an avid Facebook user.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Martha Jean (Adamson) Grounds; two sons, Ronald Grounds (wife, Melinda) of Sulfur Springs, IN and Richard Grounds (wife, Debbie) of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Randi Johnson (husband, Robert) of Fountain City, IN; seven grandchildren, Julie Morrow, Carla Harris, Zachary Grounds, Stephanie Peterson, Shawn Grounds, Robbie Johnson and Chad Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Preston, Hoyt, Herschel and James; and a sister, Sue.
A service to celebrate Carl's life will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery of Unionport, IN.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
