Died in Memphis Hospital - An Arkansas Deputy Sheriff Writes the Tribune That His Kinsman Lived in Kokomo.
Who was C. P. Ratcliffe, who was raised in Kokomo and who died here a few years ago.
If any kinsman or acquaintance of C. P. Ratcliffe is now residing in Kokomo or Howard County, he should write to L. H. Pierce, deputy sheriff at Clare, Woodruff county, Arkansas.
The Tribune is in receipt of a letter from the Arkansas officer in which the following statement is made.
"C. P. Ratcliffe, who was raised in Kokomo, Indiana, and who has been in this county for ten years, off and on, was taken to Memphis, Tennessee, last Monday with blood poison and died in St. Joseph's hospital there. He had been living here in one of my houses for three years. I had known him since 1892 and he and I were bosom friends and had just returned from a bear hunt on White River when he was taken ill. He leaves some property here which is in my possession and he had a trunk and some household goods on the bayou where he had been "batching" for some time. If his people in Kokomo wich, I will ship his things to them or sell all but his personal effects and send them. A part of his things are at my house.
I would like for some member of his family to write me and instruct me what to do. I own a stock farm here and Ratcliffe has been stopping with me when he was passing for ten years. I would like to see his things get to some of his people."
The Tribune has made some inquiry today for the kinsmen of the dead man but has not yet located them. It is doubtless true, however, that the man was raised in Howard county and that his people still live here. The name is quite a common one both in Kokomo and throughout the county and it is probable that the publication of the Arkansas officer's letter will bright the fact of C. P. Ratcliffe's death to the notice of some of his relations.
