Willard Covey, 83, Independence, MO, passed away Friday, April 24, 1998, at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, TX. A Masonic service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, followed by a funeral service.
Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Mr. Covey was born November 6, 1914, in Bates County, MO. He retired as owner and operator of Brown-Covey Precision Grinding & Machine Works. He was a 51-year member of the Eastgate Masonic Lodge No. 630, where he was a Master Mason and also a member of the Eastgate York Rite Bodies. He was Past Advisor for the True Kindred, Chanter for the Ararat Shrine Temple and a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herb Covey and Otis Covey, and one sister, Marie Bousman. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Covey, of the home; four daughters, Patricia Cannafax, Kansas City, MO, Jean Hughes, Lee's Summit, MO, Nedra Gargus, Tunas, MO, and Diana Ackley, Independence, MO; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
