Martha Jean Hackworth Smith, 87, the widow of Millard “Red” Smith, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015 at her home.
Mrs. Smith was born on September 15, 1928 in Irvine, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Eugene and Melvina Richardson Hackworth, both of whom preceded her in death. She was of the Holiness faith. Mrs. Smith was a farmer and had also been the owner and operator of Martha Jean’s Stockyard Restaurant.
Survivors include: three daughters, Sue Triplette, Judy (Bill) Roy, and Effie (Ronnie) Burrus; three sons, Merle R. (Gracie) Harrison, William Harrison, and Sammy (Pat) Hammons; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: one daughter, Brenda Louise Harrison; one grandson, Ricky L. Bowling; one sister, Effie Lee Yates; and one brother, Leonard G. Yates.
Funeral services for Martha Jean Smith will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Sammy Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in the Turpin Cemetery at Winston in Estill County.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Burrus, Millard Middleton, Terry Hackworth, Chad Osborne, Michael Robbins, and Bill Roy.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to her caregivers, Sherry Rogers and Joanne Morris.
