Mary Newton

(6 Nov 1836 - 15 Jan 1927)

Surname Newton is on death certificate of son Crawford Ousley - informant was his wife in 1960. Death Certificate of assumed son John Wilson Kingman Housley states her name as Mary Stone or Stowe - informant was his wife in 1942 -- the problem with this certificate is his given name is wrong, dates are wrong, birth places of parents wrong - I believe this certificate attached in error and this man was of no kin to this couple. Also at least one researcher has assumed an 1860 census in Hamilton Co TN as that of James - the name is James Hously and wife is Amanda - and has assumed she was a Mary Amanda Hampton and given her parents. this, too, seems highly unlikely since there is also a James "Housely" in Campbell Co TN with wife Mary (James was with his parents in Campbell Co in 1850)

1860 Census. Campbell Co, TN Hh 435
James Hously, 21, Farm labor, b. TN
Mary, 20, b. TN

There is a Mary Newman, age 15, in the household of Lewis & Rachel Newman in Blount Co, TN in 1850. Yet, some Ancestry trees with no proof have stated her father was a John Newman - others have solved this problem by giving him the name Lewis John Newman and this man does have a grave marked with the name Lewis J. Newman (1814-1877), buried Collins, Jaspter Co, TX..

Buried Denlow Cemetery, Douglas Co, MO. "Mary Ousley Wife of James" Nov 6, 1836 - Jan 15, 1927.
