Milledge Llewellyn Bates

Son of Wilson Michael Bates & Nancy/Ann. Married Georgia Emma Allen on October 16, 1866.

Milledge enlisted with the rank of Captian in 1861 as a young cadet from Auburn College in Alabama, Company K, 15th & 39th AL regiment. He was sent to Pensacola, Florida to train recruits in military tactics. In 1862, he was ordered to Richmond, Virginia and given the office of Captain in Hood's division. He was severely wound (shot through the right arm in the Battle of New Hope Church) May 22, 1864. He was taken prisoner in a battle around Murfreesboro, Tennessee and remained in prison for many weeks in Elmira, NY. When the war ended in 1865, he was critically ill at his home in Batesville, Alabama, therefore did not receive a formal discharge from the army. Pension granted by Pension Commission of Georgia.
