According to a sketch in A HISTORY OF BUTLER COUNTY KENTUCKY AND ITS PEOPLE about Mary Jane Porter, daughter of Sarah A. T. Ewing who was a granddaughter of William Ewing, the Ewings settled in Logan Co prior to 1800.
Logan Co KY: Last Will & Testament of Will Ewing written 1 Jun 1799, recorded 12 Nov 1799; p.141 of Court Order Book A1 Executors are Thomas Ewing, James Ewing, John Porter.
Will Book A: Florence Ewing, wife, the home plantation & personal estate during her widowhood - if she married, to be sold and divided with wife and my children except the Negro Sarah to be hers. dau. Mary Halsey, a colt, dau. Sarah Stroud, a colt, son James Ewing two colts out of his fancy mare and the slave Sarah after his mother's death. If Sarah has children, the first child to son Samuel, the 2nd to Mary Halsey, the next to Sarah Stroud, next daughter Peggy, and next to daughter Betsy. Son William Ewing to have home plantation after death of wife and a slave, Samuel also received a tract of land on Muddy Creek, son Nathaniel Ewing to have slave and be equal with Samuel in regard to land. Remainder to be divided equally among all children. Witnesses: Moses Thompson, John G. Hay, John Rice. Exec: John Porter, son James Ewing, and wife Florence Ewing.
