18 Oct 1878. A. M. Bell's Administrator's Bond for estate of Jehu Stuart. Amount of $2400. Securities, Jonathan Lassiter and L. D. Burkhead.

A. M. Bell applied for administration of the estate of Jehu Stuart, value about $1200.00. Heirs are Zimri Stuart, Rebecca who married Simeon Sheets, Henry Stuart, Mary who married Thomas Kearns, Elizabeth who married Wm McKearns, Sarah who married Ivy Luther, Alex Stuart, Wm Stuart, Martha who married Murphy Bell. 18 Oct 1878. He did receive the administration and permission to sell personal property for cash.
An inventory reveals that Jehu owned one slave - the boy Mose, hogs, cattle, sheep, farm tools, household furnishings.
2 Nov 1878 - allotment to the widow, Rebecca. Included 1/2 of a cow, a bay mare, crops, and household items and $109.55 in cash
The sale was held 14 Nov 1878.
Rebecca Stuart, widow, sued Bell for a deficiency in the amount of cash belonging to the estate of $109.55 - and she was awarded that amount. (undated)

1. Jehu Stuart, late of Randolph Co died intestate, 14 Oct 1878.
2. He was seized of a tract of land on Uwharrie River adj Kindred Loflin, Frederick Garner and other, 220 acres which descended to your petitioner, Alson M. Bell & wife Martha; Zimri Stuart who resides in Knightstown, Indiana; Simeon Sheets & wife Rebecca residing in Salem Church, Davidson Co, NC; Henry Stuart who resides in Illinois, P.O. Augusta; Thomas Kearns & wife Mary who reside in Indiana, Spiceland P.O.; Ivay Luther & wife Sarah who live in Fairmount, IN; William McKearns & wife Elizabeth who live in Knightstown, IN; Alexander Stuart who resides in Cincinnati, OH; William Stuart who resides in Cherokee Indian Territory, Vinity P.O. [Vinita, OK?] All who are his children and only heirs. Lands are subject to the dower right of the widow Rebecca Stuart which has not been allotted to her. Ask for sale of lands subject to the dower rights, so the proceeds may be divided equally. Filed 31 Oct 1878.
The court did order the sale after notification of the heirs. Copy of the newspaper notice is included.
Lands were sold 3 Feb 1879 to Alfred Vincannan for $410.00
Report of final settlement, dated 22 Feb 1879, showed balance in hand of administrator of $301.12. All told there was $68. 21 equal shares to Zimri, Alexander, & Henry Stuart, Sarah Luther, Rebecca Sheets, Martha Bell, Elizabeth Kearns, Mary Kearns, and William Stuart. There was a list of advancements to the heirs and this was deducted - in some cases they had already received more than the $68 and this was taken into consideration in the distribution.
Powers of Attorney were granted by several of the heirs for collection of their shares.
